Relationship between Blast Resistance of Rice Cultivars and Seed Infection of Pyricularia oryzae

Abstract

|
The blast reactions on the leaves and necks varied with eight cultivars tested in the paddy field. While some cultivars were resistant on the leaves, the necks were susceptible and vice versa with other cultivars. The reactions on leaves and necks were not necessarily related.
There were some exceptions in correlations between percentage of seed infection and blast severity on the leaves and necks. While the highest infection counts were made from the seed of cv. Suwon 287, the second least blast occurred on the leaves and the necks. The cvs. Nongbaek and Norin 6, moderately susceptible on the necks resulted in considerably high and low infection on the seeds, respectively.
